Basketball Preview: Immaculate Mustangs vs. Brookfield Bobcats
The Immaculate Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Brookfield Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Immaculate has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Immaculate pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 85-65 loss at the hands of Bunnell. While losing is never fun, Immaculate can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 18th).
Meanwhile, even though Stratford scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, Brookfield still came out on top. Brookfield strolled past the Red Devils with points to spare, taking the game 73-58. The victory was just what Brookfield needed coming off of a 76-47 defeat in their prior matchup.
Shane Weber was his usual excellent self, scoring 35 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Brookfield's points. Ryan Horton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Immaculate now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Brookfield, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Immaculate didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Bobcats when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Immaculate since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
