Softball Recap: Tough Loss for Doherty

Doherty extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They lost 26-15 to the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (10), the Spartans still had to take the loss.

Ava Cordova made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 while logging 1 home run, 4 RBIs, and 2 runs. The four RBIs were her most this season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Tessier, who went 1-for-3 while logging 3 runs, 2 RBIs, and 1 walk.

Even though they lost, Doherty took the easy way to first and finished the game with nine walks. They have not posted that many walks since August 21st, when they drew 16.

As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 10 of their last 11 contests, dating back to last year. That gives them a 9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games.

On Fountain-Fort Carson's side, Ella Weros and Brynlee Torres did most of the damage: Weros went 3-for-4 while posting 5 RBIs, 2 doubles, and 3 runs, while Torres pitched 3 innings while giving up 3 earned (and seven unearned) runs off 3 hits. The game also marked Torres' third in a row with at least two RBIs. Danielle Cooley was another key player, going 4-for-5 while posting 4 runs and 2 RBIs.

While Doherty had to take the loss this time, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
