Baseball Recap: Port of Los Angeles Wins Going Away Against Verbum Dei Jesuit

Port of Los Angeles got themselves on the board against Verbum Dei Jesuit on Saturday, but Verbum Dei Jesuit never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Polar Bears' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Jonathan Rosette made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Port of Los Angeles is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-3 otherwise. Rosette was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Port of Los Angeles got a massive performance out of Jaydan Lamadrid, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Lamadrid also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Rafael Vasquez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

The win got Port of Los Angeles back to even at 4-4. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Port of Los Angeles will challenge Harbor Teacher at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they will head out on the road to take on St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something Verbum Dei Jesuit will no doubt try to take advantage of.
