Basketball Recap: Maxwell Falls Despite Big Games from Jenna Miller and Kristyn Cheek

On Monday, the Maxwell Wildcats came up short against the Wood River Eagles and fell 52-43.

Despite the defeat, Maxwell had strong showings from Kristyn Cheek, who posted 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Jenna Miller, who earned 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Cheek has become a key player for Maxwell: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least 15 points, but 6-8 otherwise.

Wood River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Courtney Dimmitt, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 17 points and eight rebounds. What's more, Dimmitt also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Lainey Paulk was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Maxwell's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Wood River, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-17.

Maxwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wood River, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-33 defeat against Cross County on the 18th.
