Baseball Game Preview: Pine-Richland Rams vs. Central Catholic Vikings

The Pine-Richland Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Central Catholic Vikings at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Neither Pine-Richland nor Central Catholic posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Pine-Richland's offense. They came up short against Shaler Area on Wednesday, falling 7-0. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Pine-Richland got a good showing from Tristan Farrar, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Farrar has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

Meanwhile, Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They fell 5-2 to Butler. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly three runs.

Ryan Tatar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Landon Greene and Chase Gelpi did some serious damage despite the final result: Greene went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Gelpi went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Gelpi has launched this season.

Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Pine-Richland, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 12-2.

Pine-Richland beat Central Catholic 4-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
