One thing to know about Google Earth images — they may be anywhere from a month to three years old, if not older. It makes finding images of new schools challenging as many appear as empty fields or unfinished construction.
Last week, we took a look at the
oldest schools across the country, and today MaxPreps offers a look at some of the newer schools across the country via Google Earth. Many of the newest schools are private schools or public charters with only a few large public schools in the mix.
Don Soffer Aventura (Aventura, Fla.)
The first high school in the town of Aventura in Miami-Dade County, students attending the new school come from Dr. Krop High School. The first day of school was last August.
Rock Hill (Frisco, Texas)
Not quite complete in the photo, Rock Hill is set to welcome new students in the Fall of 2020. The school is on the east side of Frisco and will have about 1,800 students.
Doral Academy Red Rock (Las Vegas)
An arts integration school on the western edge of Las Vegas, the Dragons fielded volleyball, soccer, cross country and E-sports last year.
Augustine Prep (Milwaukee)
Located along the Kinnickinnic River in Milwaukee, Augustine Prep is a K4-12 school with close to 1,500 students.
East College Prep (Los Angeles)
Resting among the skyscrapers in downtown Los Angeles, East College Prep is part of the USC Hybrid High charter school program. Note the tennis courts on top of the nearby buildings.
Boquet Valley (Elizabethtown, N.Y.)
Boquet Valley got its name during a school board meeting last summer. The board unanimously chose the name over Eastern Adirondack. The new mascot is the Griffin.
Desert Valley Prep (Las Vegas)
According to the school website, school offers education with an entrepreneurial twist. It offers classes in hotel management, nuclear energy and branding/marketing.
Camino Nuevo Miramar (Los Angeles)
Camino Nuevo Charter is located in the MacArthur Park/Echo Park area of Los Angeles and is part of a group of charter schools in Los Angeles.
iTech (Miami)
iTech is located in a building listed among the Registrar of Historic Places in Miami, but has been totally renovated to house the new school that focuses on technology and entrepreneurial education.
Washington Montessori (Washington, N.C.)
The North Carolina school has an enrollment of 415 and serves five counties on a 36-acre campus.
