Softball Recap: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Takes a Loss

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley had lost eight straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-11 to make it nine. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tremont Turks. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 8-2 to the Turks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mallory Rosendahl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lydia Runyon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Bella Young was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Tremont, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games.

On Tremont's side, Maddie Feagin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Feagin a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will be playing in front of their home fans against Prairie Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Tremont, they will head out to square off against Tri-Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
