Softball Game Preview: Spectrum Sting vs. Maranatha Christian Academy Mustangs

The Spectrum Sting will head out on the road to square off against the Maranatha Christian Academy Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Maranatha Christian Academy will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Spectrum extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Sting never let Legacy Christian Academy get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory. Give the Sting's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Maranatha Christian Academy made easy work of Osseo on Monday and carried off a 13-7 win. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jenna Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Kendall Capp was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracelyn Kersey-Schutta, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Spectrum beat Maranatha Christian Academy 3-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sting since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
