Softball Recap: Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Ursuline Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-4. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 13-3 to the Lions when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kylene Werner put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over nine innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Emily Lang made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got four hits from her four at bats. Raven Horton was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Ursuline Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy will venture away from home to face off against Valley View at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last five games the Spartans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Ursuline Academy, they will square off against Turpin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
