Basketball Recap: Campbell County Comes Up Short

Campbell County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 54-46 to the South Laurel Cardinals on Saturday.

Leading South Laurel to victory were Jamie Buenaventura and Skeeter Mabe. Buenaventura went 8 for 13 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds, while Mabe went 5 of 10 en route to 18 points and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, Buenaventura now owns an excellent 45.1% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Maci Messer, who went 5 of 11 to rack up 12 points.

Campbell County's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for South Laurel, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Looking ahead, Campbell County is taking a road trip to take on Dixie Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Laurel, they will host Pineville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in South Laurel's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Pineville has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
