Basketball Recap: Tayden Francis and Scott Bylund Secure Win for Spring Creek

Spring Creek hadn't done well against Fernley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Spring Creek Spartans strolled past the Fernley Vaqueros with points to spare, taking the game 59-44. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 74-55 win the Vaqueros walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Spring Creek was led to victory by Scott Bylund and Tayden Francis. Bylund went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Francis went 10 of 18 on his way to 24 points. The dominant performance also gave Bylund a new career-high in blocks (three). Lelanyd Bautista was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Spring Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernley only racked up 11 assists.

When it comes to explaining why Fernley lost, don't look at Michael Fitzgerald. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points. Fitzgerald is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Jacobson, who earned eight points.

Spring Creek's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Fernley, they moved to 11-5 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Spring Creek has already played their next game, a 48-35 win against Elko on the 16th. As for Fernley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 74-38 victory against Churchill County on the 15th.
