Baseball Recap: Smithfield Takes Down Ranked North Kingstown

Smithfield faced North Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Sentinels beat the Skippers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. Winning may never get old, but the Sentinels sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Tucker Byrnes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Smithfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Byrnes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Byrnes wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Sylvester, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Sylvester a new career-high.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-4. As for North Kingstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Smithfield will face off against Lincoln at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Sentinels are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for North Kingstown, they will host Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
