Preview: Excel Christian Warriors vs. Coleville Wolves
Excel Christian is 8-2 against Coleville since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Excel Christian Warriors will get right back to it and host the Coleville Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Excel Christian posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They breezed by enCompass Academy at home to the tune of 55-24. The victory was just what Excel Christian needed coming off of a 64-41 defeat in their prior matchup.
Excel Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mark Doerfler, who scored 16 points along with four steals and three blocks. Doerfler has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Adelekan, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Coleville can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They blew past Whittell 56-16 at home. Coleville's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coleville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yosu Gutierrez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Cyrus Childs was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Excel Christian now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Coleville, their victory bumped their record up to 1-8.
Excel Christian was taken down by Coleville 53-17 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Excel Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
