Football Recap: Homestead Gets the Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Homestead ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 42-36 victory over the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won five in a row.

Shane Bardwell had a dynamite game, rushing for 65 yards and three touchdowns. Those 65 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Liam Moore also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was David Callison, who threw for 330 yards and three TDs. Jerquaden Guilford was Callison's top target, picking up 66 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also punching in one rushing score.

Homestead's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homestead will square off against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints' defense has only allowed six points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they will head out to take on Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins will be up against the Cadets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 47.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
