The Sevastopol Pioneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sevastopol has now lost 19 straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 13th.
Reedsville hit Sevastopol with a six-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers came up short against the Panthers, falling 8-2.
Sevastopol saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Schuh, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Manitowoc Lutheran). They put the hurt on Sheboygan Area Lutheran with a sharp 16-6 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.
Drew Staudt tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Manitowoc Lutheran got a massive performance out of Wesley Hecker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Hecker has posted since back in April of 2024. Collin Rounds was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Manitowoc Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Manitowoc Lutheran and bumps their season record up to 2-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Sevastopol, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Sevastopol might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Manitowoc Lutheran in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
