Basketball Game Preview: Mifflinburg Wildcats vs. Shamokin Area Indians

Mifflinburg and Shamokin Area are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Mifflinburg Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Shamokin Area Indians at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Mifflinburg has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 182 points over their last three contests.

Mifflinburg might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 69-60 to Warrior Run, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Defenders: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Shamokin Area on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Jersey Shore out of the water with a 71-44 final score. The Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Mifflinburg better keep an eye on Joe Hile. He was instrumental in Shamokin Area's win, going 9 of 12 on his way to 26 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Price, who posted nine points and three steals.

Shamokin Area has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Mifflinburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Mifflinburg suffered a grim 64-44 defeat to Shamokin Area in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can Mifflinburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
