Baseball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Combs Coyotes

The Morenci Wildcats will take on the Combs Coyotes in a tournament on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Morenci proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 20) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Buckeye, sneaking past 4-3.

Morenci's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Arick Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Combs made sure to put some runs up on the board against Heritage Academy on Thursday. The Coyotes came out on top against the Heroes by a score of 10-5.

Merrick Bowles was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Angus Brumbaugh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Combs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Morenci has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Combs, their record is now 4-12-2.

Morenci suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Combs when the teams last played back in March of 2018. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
