Soccer Game Preview: Petaluma vs. Sonoma Valley

Petaluma hasn't had much luck against Sonoma Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Petaluma Trojans will take on the Sonoma Valley Dragons at 6:00 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Petaluma fell victim to Vintage and their airtight defense on Monday. They came up short against the Crushers, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 718th, while the Crushers are ranked 157th).

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Sonoma Valley was not quite Napa's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They lost 3-0 to the Grizzlies. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sonoma Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Petaluma, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Petaluma beat Sonoma Valley by a goal when the teams last played back in January, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Petaluma since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
