Softball Game Preview: Washburn Pirates vs. Cumberland Gap Panthers

The Washburn Pirates will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Cumberland Gap Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cumberland Gap took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Washburn, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 15 losses in a row dating back to last season, Washburn turned things around against Northview Academy on Monday. They were the clear victor by an 18-10 margin over the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Cumberland Gap was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Claiborne, falling 9-1.

Washburn's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Cumberland Gap, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Washburn might still be hurting after the 10-4 defeat they got from Cumberland Gap in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Washburn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
