Basketball Recap: Payson's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against San Tan Foothills last Tuesday, Payson came back down to earth. The Payson Longhorns fell to the Snowflake Lobos 49-45. The Longhorns were not able to make up for their loss to the Lobos from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Payson lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kyndall Hatch, who posted eight points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Clara Whaley, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Among those leading the charge was Kenadi Stuart, who had 14 points and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ryah Denhalter was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Payson's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-5. As for Snowflake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

Payson will be playing at home against Bourgade Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Payson is facing Bourgade Catholic at the right time seeing as Bourgade Catholic is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Snowflake has already played their next game, a 69-29 win against Blue Ridge on the 24th.
