Basketball Recap: Samarra Newburn Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Terre Haute North Vigo

Terre Haute South Vigo lost to Terre Haute North Vigo back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Terre Haute South Vigo Braves walked away with a 59-52 victory over the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Braves considering their 20-point performance the game before.

Terre Haute South Vigo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Samarra Newburn out in front who posted 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Newburn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karizma English-Malone, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five boards.

Terre Haute South Vigo's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-12. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Terre Haute South Vigo will challenge Charleston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Terre Haute North Vigo has already played their next match (against Shakamak), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
