Baseball Game Preview: Mexia Black Cats vs. Groesbeck Goats

The Mexia Black Cats will face off against the Groesbeck Goats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Groesbeck took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mexia, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Mexia made easy work of Elkhart and carried off a 17-7 victory. The Black Cats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Adriano Mendoza was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Mexia is undefeated when Mendoza posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Anthony Schaff, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Mexia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Groesbeck unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Westwood by a score of 6-5.

Nick Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season.

Mexia has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Groesbeck, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7-1.

Mexia was able to grind out a solid victory over Groesbeck when the teams last played back in March, winning 5-2. Will the Black Cats repeat their success, or do the Goats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
