Baseball Recap: Pensacola Catholic Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pensacola Catholic walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Freeport Bulldogs a 7-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Crusaders as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Not much got past Gabe Mercado, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Freeport off the board. Mercado has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter McCammon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Colton Guillot, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Pensacola Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pensacola Catholic's record is now 11-12. As for Freeport, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 18-7 record.

Looking ahead, Pensacola Catholic will challenge Bozeman at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bucks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Freeport does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
