Basketball Game Preview: New Smyrna Beach Barracudas vs. Deltona Wolves

The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas will take on the Deltona Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with New Smyrna Beach sitting on eight straight wins and Deltona on four.

New Smyrna Beach will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Spruce Creek, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. New Smyrna Beach snuck past Spruce Creek with a 56-51 victory on Thursday. Given the Barracudas' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Hawks are ranked 81st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Smyrna Beach's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Olivia Olson, who went 7 of 14 en route to 22 points along with six boards and three steals, and Iniya Reddicks, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Reddicks a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Riley France, who posted nine points and six boards.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Deltona walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 72-47 margin over the Bulls on Tuesday. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

New Smyrna Beach better keep an eye on Frantashia Williams. She was instrumental in Deltona's win, putting up 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariella Andre, who scored 11 points.

New Smyrna Beach's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Deltona, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

New Smyrna Beach and Deltona were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but New Smyrna Beach came up empty-handed after a 49-48 defeat. Can New Smyrna Beach avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
