Volleyball Recap: Lafayette Generals vs. Russell Red Devils
Lafayette proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Russell Red Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Generals have posted since August 2nd.
The match came down to the wire multiple times:two sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The final score came out to 24-26, 26-24, 15-11.
Audrey Gossett paced Lafayette's offense, picking up 19 kills. Gossett got some help from Elise Trimble and her 31 assists. Carli Dotson controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
The victory got Lafayette back to even at 8-8. As for Russell, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.
Lafayette didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Anderson County on the 19th. As for Russell, they will head out to take on Greenup County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
