Baseball Game Preview: Smith Academy Falcons vs. Smith Vo-Tech Vikings

The Smith Academy Falcons will take on the Smith Vo-Tech Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Smith Academy has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smith Academy lost 18-1 to Lenox Memorial on Wednesday.

Smith Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garret Willard, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Harrison LaFlamme also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Smith Vo-Tech strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand St. Mary a 3-0 shutout. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Vikings have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

James Lavallee made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Lavallee was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Pat Millin was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Millin is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jarred Baer, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Smith Vo-Tech's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Smith Academy, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Smith Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Smith Vo-Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
