Baseball Game Preview: Charlestown Pirates vs. Floyd Central Highlanders

The Charlestown Pirates will head out to face off against the Floyd Central Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Charlestown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Charlestown and Austin, and Charlestown kept the tradition alive. The Pirates blew past the Eagles 8-2 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Dylan French, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Helton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Floyd Central came up short against Seymour on Thursday, falling 14-4. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Floyd Central's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Charlestown, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

Charlestown suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Floyd Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
