Independence had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Cupertino Pioneers 20-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the 76ers have posted since September 20, 2024.

Despite the loss, Cupertino still got an impressive performance from Brandon Cheng, who picked up 140 receiving yards.

Looking ahead, Independence will head out to challenge Piedmont Hills at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Cupertino, they will challenge Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
