Basketball Recap: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Highland Hornets
Carlsbad had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it seven. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to the Highland Hornets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavemen/Cavegirls of the 76-69 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2016.
As for Highland, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 62.5 points this season.
Nico Sanchez had a dynamite game, shooting 59% from the field on his way to 29 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Fedi Nunez, who posted ten points and five boards.
Coming up, Carlsbad will take on Rio Rancho in a tournament on Thursday. As for Highland, they will be taking part in a tournament against St. Michael's at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
