Volleyball Recap: El Capitan Takes a Loss

El Capitan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Canyon Hills Rattlers. The Vaqueros were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rattlers earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Canyon Hills scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-20, 27-29, 25-18.

Nicholas Patterson paced El Capitan's offense, picking up 17 kills. Patterson got some help from Jacob Marquez and his 22 assists. Marquez was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

El Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Canyon Hills, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

El Capitan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Valhalla on the 20th. As for Canyon Hills, they will venture away from home to face off against Mission Bay at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Mission Bay's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
