Softball Recap: LaSalle Tigers vs. Northwood Gators
LaSalle can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They never let the Northwood Gators onto the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The win was just what LaSalle needed coming off of a 14-2 loss in their prior contest.
Rheese Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Martin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Lana Childress was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Leanna Womack was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
LaSalle pushed their record up to 12-9 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs per game. As for Northwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaSalle will take on Mangham at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northwood, they are on the road again on Wednesday to play Lakeview at 4:00 p.m.
