Basketball Game Preview: Coventry Comets vs. Ellet Orangemen

The Coventry Comets and the Ellet Orangemen will compete for holiday cheer at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Ellet is hoping to do what Ravenna couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Coventry's winning streak, which now stands at seven games. Coventry claimed a resounding 74-42 victory over Ravenna. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-12.

Coventry's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kameryn Kennerly, who went 10 of 19 en route to 27 points along with eight boards and three steals, and Reggie Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Kennerly's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Meinen, who posted 13 points.

Coventry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Ellet won against North on Tuesday with 72 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Ellet blew past Springfield 72-18. That 54 point margin sets a new team best for the Orangemen this season.

The win made it two in a row for Ellet and bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for Coventry, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Coventry and Ellet were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Coventry came up empty-handed after a 55-54 defeat. Can Coventry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
