3A Conference 8 recap November 19, 2013
Weddington was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Ledford. The Warriors came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Anson moved up to 131 from 159 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Conference 8. The Bearcats climbed the ranks as a result of beating Southern Guilford 30-20.
Sun Valley's dynamic duo of Drew Swoope and Dionte DeBerry proved tough for A.C. Reynolds to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Swoope threw for 66 yards and 1 touchdown and DeBerry had 46 yards receiving. Alden McKellar helped Sun Valley's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 15 yards.
J'Maine Harris was a passing and rushing force as Anson bested the Storm. He completed 7 passes for 92 yards and also ran for 87 yards. Harris' favorite target this week was Dytrelle Marshall, who caught 3 passes for 46 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Cuthbertson's Steven Fusco and BJ Muckelvene have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Fusco has thrown for 1,609 yards this season, while Muckelvene has 44 catches for 632 yards. The Spartans' Albert Funderburk leads the league in rushing yards with 2,137.
Sun Valley fell to the Rockets 65-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Funderburk was a bright spot for Paul Hall's team, as he ran for 114 yards in the loss.
