Baseball Recap: Gibault Catholic Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

It's playoff time, and Gibault Catholic had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the New Athens Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-2 on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets back in March, they had to take a 6-3 defeat.

Carson Timmons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Frierdich, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Peyton Schaefer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Gibault Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Gibault Catholic pushed their record up to 11-18 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for New Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Looking ahead, Gibault Catholic will face off against Calhoun at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. New Athens does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
