Recap: Acalanes Dons vs. Campolindo Cougars
While it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, the Acalanes Dons were not quite the Campolindo Cougars's equal in the second half on Friday. Acalanes was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Campolindo. While losing is never fun, Acalanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 480th, while Campolindo is ranked 69th).
Despite the loss, Acalanes still got an impressive performance from Liam Krackeler, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Preston Hilsabeck was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Campolindo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Rendle led the charge by scoring 14 points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Mansour, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Acalanes has been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 15 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Campolindo, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Acalanes will take on Berean Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Berean Christian and seven for Acalanes. As for Campolindo, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Benicia at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd. One thing working in Benicia's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 contests.
