Softball Recap: Mount De Sales Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mcdonogh

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mount de Sales Academy). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the McDonogh Eagles a 25-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brooke Fuhr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Fuhr was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Mount de Sales Academy got a massive performance out of Vanessa Gilman, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave Gilman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Ross, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.

Mount de Sales Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mount de Sales Academy pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for McDonogh, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

The future could be bright for both Mount de Sales Academy and McDonogh: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Sailors will look to extend Mercy's three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, McDonogh will try to hand St. John's Catholic Prep their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
