Basketball Recap: Bellevue West Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Northwest

Bellevue West is ranked highly in their home state and on Monday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Northwest. The Bellevue West Thunderbirds were beaten by the Northwest Wolves 95-64. The matchup marked the Thunderbirds' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Robert Garcia and Brayden Mauro certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Garcia almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards, while Mauro went 6 for 12 on his way to 16 points. Garcia is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Coyer, who posted nine points.

Bellevue West's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Northwest, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Bellevue West will take on Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwest, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Southeast Polk at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
