Softball Recap: Denison Wins Going Away Against Anna

Denison was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Anna on Tuesday. Denison put the hurt on Anna with a sharp 14-3 victory. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by eight runs or more this season.

Calli Svendsen spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Addison Ciaccio was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Shrum, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Denison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .550 or higher in three consecutive games.

The win got Denison back to even at 10-10. As for Anna, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Denison will welcome Walnut Grove at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Denison will need to watch out since Walnut Grove has now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests. As for Anna, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lovejoy at 6:45 p.m. Lovejoy's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Anna's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
