Baseball Game Preview: East Gaston Warriors vs. Cherryville Ironmen

East Gaston hasn't had much luck against Cherryville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The East Gaston Warriors will welcome the Cherryville Ironmen at 7:00 p.m. East Gaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, East Gaston came up short against Cherryville and fell 8-5.

Cameron Barnette was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Dylan Howell was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Cherryville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Gaston, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. East Gaston has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cherryville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.7 strikeouts.
