Softball Preview: Lakeshore Lancers vs. New Prairie Cougars
The Lakeshore Lancers will play host again on Tuesday to welcome the New Prairie Cougars, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
Lakeshore is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs last Saturday, they were much more limited against Portage Central on Thursday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-1.
Meanwhile, New Prairie can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Monday. Everything went their way against Mishawaka Marian as New Prairie made off with a 13-1 win. The victory was familiar territory for New Prairie who now have five in a row.
Ava Geyer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Geyer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Geyer was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Chelminiak and Randi Robakowski did most of the damage at the plate: Chelminiak scored a run while going 4-for-4, while Robakowski scored four runs while going 3-for-3. Chelminiak has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Emma Luther was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
