Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Wins Going Away Against Hialeah

Somerset Academy owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Hialeah Thoroughbreds. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Thoroughbreds, too.

Luis Rivera tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jon Mora, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Somerset Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Alan Sanchez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Somerset Academy and bumps their season record up to 10-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Hialeah, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy will venture away from home to square off against Coral Gables at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hialeah, they will head out to take on South Miami at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Thoroughbreds are facing the Cobras at the right time seeing as the Cobras are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
