Soccer Game Preview: Abingdon vs. Lord Botetourt

The Abingdon Falcons will challenge the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Abingdon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.8 goals per game this season.

Abingdon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to nine goals last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Gate City on Thursday. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1. The match was a 1-1 toss-up at halftime, but Abingdon couldn't quite close it out.

Their goal came courtesy of Mason Sollien, who's now up to 32 this season.

Meanwhile, Lord Botetourt kept a clean sheet against Franklin County on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 3-0 win. Considering Lord Botetourt have won seven contests by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for Lord Botetourt and bumps their season record up to 10-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two games. As for Abingdon, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-7-1 record.

Abingdon might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Lord Botetourt in their previous matchup back in April. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Falcons were down 5-0.
