Softball Recap: La Serna Wins Going Away Against Liberty

With a playoff win on the line, La Serna rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past the Liberty Bison 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Cann Puig was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrie Baruch, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexi Avila, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

La Serna lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for La Serna and bumps their season record up to 17-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-10.

Looking ahead, La Serna will square off against Redondo Union at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Sea Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight. Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
