League recap: Lafferty's hitting boosts Grand Junction

5A/4A Southwestern league recap: 3/27/13

Tristan Lafferty was the hottest hitter in 5A/4A Southwestern this week, racking up a .692 average with 14 RBIs. Meanwhile, Grand Junction put together a 2-0 week.

Noah Sanchez was the best pitcher in the league this week, leading Grand Junction Central. He won one game and struck out 11 batters.

The Tigers' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 15 hits and nine walks to lead the league in both categories.

There were eight hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. Leading the pack was Owen Taylor, who hit .727 by going 8-for-11.

Josh Moore struck out nine in Grand Junction's 20-3 win over Poudre on March 19. Over four innings of work, he gave up three hits and one run.



Ty Burtard was an RBI machine on Thursday, as he knocked in four runs during Fruita Monument's 11-3 win over Valencia. He went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
