Softball Recap: Venice Takes a Loss

Venice entered their match against Evangelical Christian on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Indians fell just short of the Sentinels by a score of 4-3. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 4-2 to the Sentinels when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jayde Neptune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Venice saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raionna Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Venice's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Evangelical Christian, their win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Looking ahead, Venice will challenge Braden River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.35 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Evangelical Christian, they will square off against Immokalee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
