No. 1 McCallie beats No. 20 Christian Brothers, while No. 4 Briarcrest tops No. 6 Ensworth in other matchups between ranked teams

High school football playoffs got fully underway Friday in Tennessee as the private schools joined the action.

The most significant development came in Division II-Class AAA where No. 10 Montgomery Bell Academy upset No. 2 Baylor 12-7 on Friday. Freshman quarterback Manuel Reed connected with senior Noah Mendoza early in the fourth quarter - their second TD hook-up of the game - to provide the final margin and send the Big Red to meet Memphis University in the semifinals.

In other II-AAA action, No. 4 Briarcrest Christian edged No. 6 Ensworth 35-33, and No. 1 McCallie dispatched No. 20 Christian Brothers 28-6 to end a two-game skid. Also, No. 11 Memphis University survived No. 14 Knoxville Catholic 35-28.

In the public school playoffs, the highlighted game in 6A featured  No. 7 Ravenwood routing No. 24 Cane Ridge 35-0.
