Recap: La Plata Warriors vs. Great Mills Hornets
The La Plata Warriors suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 56-13 loss at the hands of Great Mills. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for La Plata in their matchups with Great Mills: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the defeat, La Plata saw an underclassman step up: Taylor Parker scored ten points.
Great Mills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abril Esparza, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Esparza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Karleigh Thomas, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
La Plata bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.8 points per game. As for Great Mills, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
La Plata will be playing at home against Calvert at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Calvert is ranked 225th, while La Plata is ranked 214th). As for Great Mills, they will head out on the road to challenge McDonough at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully McDonough focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.
