Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Mountain Brook's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Mountain Brook was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Woodlawn on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Colonels a 19-0 shutout. That's the fifth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 15-0 victory two weeks ago.

Edith Kaplan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Reagan Rape was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Addison Webb, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.

Mountain Brook has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-31 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Woodlawn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Mountain Brook wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 22-5 loss against Gardendale on the 8th. Woodlawn does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
