Baseball Recap: Hamburg Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hamburg extended their winning streak to four on Monday, bumping their season record up to 12-6-1 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Williamsville East Flames. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 win the Flames walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Hamburg got a great performance from Kohl Schaefer as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, Schaefer posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jimmy Steffen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

As for Williamsville East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5-1 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Williamsville East's side, Eric Osterstrom was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Gavin Steinacher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Hamburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against Williamsville East: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
