It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Upper Darby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Ridley Raiders 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted against the Raiders since May 2, 2016.

Sarah Gentile was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 8.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kaylie Hasson was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Yard, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Upper Darby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Upper Darby and bumps their season record up to 3-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Ridley, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Upper Darby will take on Garnet Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Royals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Ridley, they will face off against Conestoga at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Pioneers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
